POSTCARD

My interest in sketching lighthouses began in 2021 when I launched a roadtrip down the Pacific Coast Highway as an escape from the pandemic. I purchased Jeremy D’Entremont’s Lighthouse Handbook: West Coast. Chasing those lighthouses gave my trip purpose.

The following year I sketched lighthouses along the Gulf of Mexico and up the East Coast. The idea of a book began to take form, but I thought narrowing the focus to the Great Lakes would make sense. So, more driving—around all the Great Lakes sketching lighthouses. The result is Lighthouses of the Great Lakes: An Architect’s Sketchbook, published by ORO Editions.

My previous two books, Capture the Moment: An Architect’s Guide to Travel Sketching, and Barns of the St. Croix Valley: An Architect’s Sketchbook, were also published by ORO Editions.

Our Postcard department presents artworks and photographs that capture indelible architectural scenes from across Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.
