The family-owned and -led window and door manufacturer has completed a multiyear renovation of its nearly 80,000-square-foot corporate home in Warroad, Minnesota. Designed by HGA, the project prioritized AIA Framework for Design Excellence Design for Well-Being measures with expansive windows and operable doors (all Marvin products) that daylight interiors and blend indoor and outdoor spaces for employees and visitors alike. Other Marvin materials integrated into the design include crafted wood profiles in the stairs, railings, and feature walls and white oak elements that connect employee, community, and visitor hubs throughout the building.

“We worked closely with Marvin to create an office built around a sense of community, collaboration, and well-being that fully supports company culture and employees’ new ways of working,” says HGA senior interior designer Ashley Macaulay. “We implemented three methods for determining the unique mix of strategies and spaces the company needed. These included distributing a questionnaire that surveyed all employees in the office to evaluate their aspirations and motivations to do their best work; hosting ‘changemaker’ workshops with a representative sample of employees to gather insights and co-create solutions; and conducting a thorough building and program analysis to inform spatial and organization strategies. The result is a destination for employees and visitors alike to experience the Marvin brand, local craftsmanship, and the company’s purpose: to imagine and create better ways of living.”

The Marvin Headquarters project team included HGA, Mortenson, and Continua Interiors.
